Strange Factories – Trailer HD
Strange Factories – Trailer HD from FoolishPeople on Vimeo.
A writer, haunted by an idea for a new story hunts for four refugee performers of a theatre destroyed in a mysterious fire.
He locates his friends in a remote, pagan settlement founded by Stronheim; owner of a Strange Factory hidden deep in the local countryside that emits an infamous Hum.
Victor enters into a dangerous pact when a vow is made to re-build their theatre if the story is completed in time for it to be performed at the village festival, where bizarre rituals are enacted by the Villagers under the influence of a hallucinogenic effluence siphoned out of the Strange Factory.
Victor’s imagination and the fragmented memories of his friends collide in a violent fiction that not everyone can survive.
Strange Factories’ is an immersive feature film; a uniquely powerful and original project that fuses cinema with a dreamlike environment to create an experience like no other.
Principal photography on Strange Factories was completed in Prague and the UK in October 2011 and is currently in post-production with release scheduled for 2012.

Modern Mythology Are in the Midst of a Year-End Fundraiser
Observant readers may have noticed me mentioning this before. Right now I’m in the process of tweeting every one of the 300+ articles that have run on modernmythology.net in 2011. Think of how much work that entails, and then consider that there were three books published already this year, and an anthology on its way. Then there’s the music.
[Check out some of the books, albums, and soon movies produced by Mythos Media and our various media partners.]
Necrofuturist Salon Episode 27 – Dissociative Modifications
The symbolism surrounding Lady P. Emerson is so blatant that one might wonder if it’s all a sick joke. Necrofuturist symbolism is becoming so clear that analizes like this one becomes a simple exercise of pointing out the obvious. His whole persona (whether its an act or not) is a tribute to mind control, where being vacuous, incoherent and absent minded becomes a fashionable thing.
You only need to look at a couple of Lady P. Emerson pictures or videos to notice that he is constantly hiding one of his thighs. Most people will simply interpret this as ”a ghoul thing to do” or a “fashion statement”. Those who have passed the 101 of Necrofuturist symbolism know that the All-Seething Thigh is probably its most recognizable symbol. The gesture of fanning one nut, usually the left one, goes way back in Necrofuturist orders. Here’s an explanation of the origin of the Thigh of P. Emerson.
Lady P. Emerson, the son of Gamalöost and Isis was called ‘P. Emerson who drools with two thighs’. His right thigh was white and represented the sun: his left thigh was slack and represented the moon. According to the myth, cHorus lost his left thigh to his evil brother, Snæetch, with whom he fought to avenge Snæetch’s murder of Gamalöost. Snæetch tore out one of the thighs but lost the fight. The thigh was reassembled by magic, by Høötch, the god of writhing, the moon and Musick-Magick. P. Emerson presented his thigh to Gamalöost, who experienced rebirth in the underworld.

Art War, Art During Wartime, War on Art
If you want to see where your coutry is headed in the next five years, look to the state of the culture and those who produce it. Artists are the canaries in the coalmine. Artists will be shut out first on the march towards totalitarianism. First the creative, hard to control individuals need to be put on the defensive, made to think more about whether they can survive than is good for their work.
First, they removed the poets from the national conversation. I was not a poet, so I said nothing….
And any consideration of art or philosophy becomes indefensible, as I touched upon in Is It Art? Is IT Legal? Is It, Bugger… on the kkoagublogg:
It’s kind of a bourgeois thing to sit and speculate on w(h)ither art?, declare this form or that form dead, and debating back and forth to estimate the time of death. Hey, it’s all dead and in ruins along with the future, literacy and quite likely the industry currently eating up your time in exchange for the means and permission to stay alive for your natural span and do so in sheltered accomodations, owned or rented. The future is here, the future once promised is dead, long live the future, dead music and all.
It may be a stretch, but as I see it, the life is being wring from culture, as life giving qualities is being removed from the food. Well, here’s an offering made, and a curse placed. Of course from a group of artists:
5th public Curse on the Most hated corporation in the world the Monsanto corporation that makes genetically modified foods that cause real health problems. Up to 90% of what Americans eat is genetically modified.
Performance with Jeanelle Mastema & Halie Koehler. Music by USAF, Adam Cooper Terán and John Gross
Watch it until you vibrate with its current, and you’ll be a conduit for the rebuilding. It is audacious to ask “What is Art?”, to devote ones energies to it, unless sanctioned by the 1%, but our survival depends on it.
Trailer for the documentary “What is ART? Inside the Mind of the Artist as They Speak the Truth” by Steven Johnson Leyba featuring H.R.Giger, Genesis P-Orridge, Howard Bloom, Joe Coleman, Richard Metzger, David J, Mark Bode and more answer the difficult questions, what is Art?what is TRUE ART?, what is the difference between art and entertainment?, what is more important the artist or the art? Is art important?

Apocalyptic Imaginary: The Best of Modern Mythology 2011
This book captures and expands upon the unique commentary and analysis that has helped define the Modern Mythology project in 2011. Through the voices of many contributors, we collectively take a hard look at the blurred lines between narrative and truth, philosophy and literature, personal history and cultural memory. All of this is done with an eye towards the imagined apocalypse that is always just around the corner. Join in the discussion, and leave your cultural blinders at home.
Coming December 2011. You’ll be able to pick up a copy of your own for $.99 as an eBook everywhere but Amazon (their pricing strategy forces it to a bottom price-point of $2.99), and the paperback should come in at around $16. I will announce the final price when it is laid out, as prices are based on final page counts.
What’s going on in the back room
James curcio catches us up on the whirlwind of activity going on and reveals some of what’s to come for Modern Mythology and beyond:
We’re still working behind-the-scenes on getting our podcast in order. That’ll begin running here and on Alterati when it’s ready – hopefully soon – and then will run regularly thereafter every other week.
Over the past few months there have been several ongoing fictional (or quasi-fictional, more aptly) narratives. After some thought, I’ve broken them off to Join My Cult! to keep the content on Modern Mythology itself focused on commentary, critique, analysis, exegesis, even aphorism, rather than strictly counterculture / conspiracy narrative. On JMC you will find high weirdness created by a world-wide network of cabals.
In other news, I just finished attending the major SPEP (Society of Phenomenological and Existential Philosophy) conference in Philadelphia. Expect a little about that here in coming days. Among other things, the very split of continental and analytic philosophy is along the same lines as what we draw as myth and science, here, so I’d like to unpack that thought and several others soon.
The fundraiser continues in November. We’ve raised $342, and I thank each of the people who have chipped in so far. But we have a way to go. I’m hoping we can kick that up a notch, so we can keep this project going as well as kicking it up to the next level (especially if we meet the full goal.) Minimum donation is now $1, and still gets you a perk – an eBook copy of Fallen Nation: Party At The World’s End at less than retail price.
What We Need & What You Get
The funds we are raising are for :
1. Setup and other fees for the publication of the “Apocalyptic Imaginary: Best of Modern Mythology 2011″ anthology, which covers a wide range of important topics from the arts, culture, literature, all with our eclectic and often irreverent edge.
2. Extended production for the launch of a Modern Mythology podcast. Funds will allow for us to provide on-site coverage and extend production.
3. The funds will also be used to spread awareness of all elements of this project– brochures, flyers, and presence at relevant conventions and conferences in 2012.
4. Tech – hosting, domains, etc.
Every little bit helps and those who contribute will receive special perks & publications!

At Modern Mythology we are engaged in an effort to fund our growing operations through IndieGoGo. This continues our general approach, which manifested itself through active engagement with readers, critics, scholars and an open and open ended invitation to potential collaborators from the very beginning.
In fact, our site has a page inviting those who dare enter to Join Our Cult:
WANTED: Genius Lunatic Mythmakers and Cultural Creators.
The contributor roster here at Modern Mythology is beginning to fill out nicely. However, there is room at the table for a few more if you have fire in your belly and are looking to contribute to a growing collective. What are we?
There is no “we.” But if there were, it’d be a group comprised of situationist collectives, sacred clowns, hive brains, corporate and academic moles and sleeper agents, ontological terrorists, unlicensed psychologists, toxic armchair philosophers, and out-and-out sex and drug fiends. Our books are making their way into classrooms and subway cars, our albums are tunneling into someone’s earholes on the other side of the planet right now. However you want to label us, we’ll take it and keep upping the ante. We’ll use whatever angle will give us the spin we’re looking for at that moment from the media.
Look around our sites and you’ll see we’ve created a large body of work. We feel it’s important that we keep publishing thought-provoking pieces on pop culture philosophy and social commentary, and to keep expanding the scope and ambition of our art and scholarship. The work of Modern Mythology goes beyond comparative religion and philosophy into the core of humanity’s myth making capacity, the very tendencies that allow some to gain power, some to be enslaved, some to shape how every one of us sees the world and more very real and powerful ways Living Myth shapes who we are.
Fallen Nation: Party At The World’s End Audiobook
I’m very happy to be able at this point to point you towards something that begins to hint at the vast world created by artistic brothers in arms and co-conspirators James Curcio and Jason Stackhouse. More than building a mythos, follow the story that is unfolding and you’ll see what transmedia can do. Nay, you’ll be cast into the works of the machine and you will end up seeing the gears you didn’t know were there, turning to create the movements and to spin you in your pre-determined axis. The abyss gazes into you from the tracks of subQtaneous, and watch the lakes of the hell THEY built of you and your ancestors as the stories in the novels reflect the burning light back into their depths.

subQtaneous was described by Scenery magazine as a “stick of dynamite strapped to reality.” It is a concept album, based on the idea of the gradual decline of the American empire, enmeshed, as it were, in many of the same myths which gave birth to Fallen Nation.

There are P. Emersonisms to be found in the sounds of subQtaneous, and perhaps some sonic input to come in the audiobook. For Milestone V of our campaign for ‘Strange Factories’, FoolishPeople will be running a professional theatre and arts workshops in London in August, with the proceeds going directly into our funding campaign for ‘Strange Factories’.
This is a rare opportunity for actors, performers and artists to introduce themselves to the core techniques and concepts of FP’s working practice, Theatre of Manifestation.
Theatre of Manifestation combines mythology, shamanism, drama therapy and open source collaboration to create immersive experiences that have the power to raise a numinous experience within the audience. It dismantles the notion of the spectator being a passive recipient of a theatrical experience; active engagement and participation is vital and absolutely necessary.
The workshop will take place on Saturday 13thAugust from 10am-6pm in central London, venue TBC. Over the course of the day, you will work withJohn Harrigan, Artistic Director and founder of FoolishPeople to explore the core techniques and skills needed within immersive theatre and how you can unlock and open the essence of your imagination and creativity.
You will be taught techniques to dismantle creative blocks, attain a truthful performance and formulate new ideas and processes for each project you undertake. This will offer participants a focused framework for their continuing artistic development.
This workshop will leave you feeling confident and empowered with new skills and techniques that you can apply to your own working practice within a variety of mediums and performance styles. This workshop is open to all arts professionals and those interested in exploring their creativity.
Previous workshops have been held in collaboration with organisations such as the University of Hertfordshire, the BBC and The Central School of Speech & Drama.

Is It Art? Is IT Legal? Is It, Bugger…
There have been multiple declarations of ART WAR in the last few years, but things rarely update after the manifesto is posted, usually on a free blog platform. Hey, we did that! Well, not declare ART WAR, but post a manifestooo right here. We may be developing more music, now that we broke it, or something entirely different. The process is the product and the conversation will determine what, how where with the who being every living and dead creature…
Modernism to Postmodernism to Postmortemism
We cultural types do love to declare death wherever we cast our jaded blood-shot eyes. When our imaginations are exhausted, hard-ons for the latest arising only with greater efforts require new extremes of fetishism. A point comes when completed work crowds out attention. Art, empire, economy, politics look to us to be sated with days and ready to give in to sweet oblivion.
Far Flung, the Rose Madder Crowd
The best place for an artist is to not be beholden to anything but the work. Well, that’s the ideal. What is often forgotten is that in the continuum of creation to curation to collection only creation is production. Dealers, A&R people and publishers tend to be more aware of this than the people at either end of the process and keeping that in mind helps one understand the minds and actions of the middle-men who usually end up with most of t …

Some of the input I’m shutting the tabs on as I move on to digestion mode. What is more interesting – the issues raised in these articles or the story-scape they all contribute to. (Or do they really relate at all?
Is the use of assistants in the creation of art still common? there’s something very 1980′s about that…
The Art Assembly Line
It’s a phenomenon that’s rarely discussed in the art world: The new work on a gallery wall wasn’t necessarily painted by the artist who signed it. Some well-known artists, such as Damien Hirst and Jeff Koons, openly employ small armies of assistants to do their paintings and sculptures. Others hire help more quietly.
Make/Do
“Vainglory,” an anachronistic term meaning an unjustified and excessive pride in one’s own achievements or abilities is one of the primary forces animating and shaping contemporary culture. The phenomena that is American Idol owes its considerable popularity both to its role in discovering legitimate, almost freakishly superhuman singing skill, but also as a window into contemporary culture’s vainglorious soul.

A Call to Arms (In the War Between Art and Survival)
If you haven’t noticed, there is an ancient and ongoing war between Art and Survival.
And yes, I’m serious. It is a War — and Art has been losing. Whether we are writers, painters, directors, actors, poets, dancers, or musicians, the artists of the world face a fundamental problem: we live in a society in which Art has little value. No amount of ambitious self-hypnotism or L.A.-style positive affirmation can change that. Since we were children, our behavior has been modified by rewards and punishments. And in modern society, we primarily respond to a form of social conditioning called Money.

I also wrote fictional pieces about myself and some of the regulars who contributed comments to my blog. In doing this I often adopted postmodern literary techniques, by for example taking newspaper stories and adapting names and other details to make them about me and my readers. For example: “A kinky sex escapade ended this week with the electrocution death of a Belfast man and the arrest of his boyfriend for manslaughter.
