That’s always been my problem with acrylics: they dry too damn fast. And I’ve tried watering them down, but all they seemed good for after diluting was “many layers of semi-opaque washes and glazes”. Then I’d let the backgrounds dry and go to town with certain oil-based colors and turpentine to dilute the oil the slightest bit. Let that dry and then get to work. Gah. I can blabber.

I do thin the paint quite a bit with water, which helps with flow. You can get even closer to looking like oils using a slow drying medium. Another benefit of thinning the paint is that one can can add many layers of semi-opaque washes and glazes.

I didn’t read the title of the post before writing my comment which was only directed at the initial image. I assumed oil because of all the streak lines. I never get that effect with acrylics.

It is actually acrylic. If you click on the image, you can see him emerge and recede to infinity.

Looks like an undead Sumerian king emerging from the dead pool of the afterlife which incidentally is shaped like an open palm. The stroke lines make the picture. I’m guessing oil instead of acrylic.
